As the BBC kicked off the New Year yesterday with the thrilling Luther season five finale, it also released a new trailer for upcoming dramas in 2019. Several new and returning shows were teased. Among them was a first look at Peaky Blinders season five.
When does Peaky Blinders return to BBC?
Peaky Blinders will make its highly anticipated return to screens in 2019, although the exact date is still unknown.
Filming began back in October 2018 and is still well underway.
The footage shown in the BBC trailer, however, proves that good progress is being made with some epic scenes teased.
In a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it clip, Tommy Shelby (played by Cillian Murphy) is seen lying on the ground beside a flaming car after an explosion.

Season four ended with Tommy being elected as an MP for Birmingham South - could he be making dangerous enemies in the world of politics now?
Either way, Peaky Blinders will definitely be back in 2019 - watch this space for the official date announcement.
Last February, creator Steve Knight told Express.co.uk he expected it to return in spring 2019.
“It will be the normal turn around, it would be [airing in] spring of 2019,” he said at the time.

There are likely to be six episodes in total, though this has not yet been confirmed either.
The upcoming run will see the popular historical drama move from BBC Two to BBC One.
The move is due to the show’s huge popularity and its role in the resurgence of drama on the BBC over the last five years.
“I want to give it the chance to be enjoyed by an even broader audience on BBC One,” BBC Director of BBC Content Charlotte Moore said.

The official synopsis for season five reads: “Series five finds the world thrown into turmoil by the financial crash of 1929.
“Opportunity and misfortune are everywhere. When Tommy Shelby MP is approached by a charismatic politician with a bold vision for Britain, he realises that his response will affect not just his family’s future but that of the entire nation.”
Some new cast members have also been added to the line-up.

Among them is Sam Claflin from Journey’s End, Anya Taylor-Joy from The Witch and Biran Gleeson from Phantom Thread.
Returning cast members include Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle and Finn Cole.
Kate Phillips, Natasha O’Keeffe, Aidan Gillen, Jack Rowan, Charlie Murphy and Kingsley Ben-Adir also star.
